Florida Minimum Wage

Different states have different minimum wage rates. Effective January 1 st, 2008 the Florida minimum wage is $6.79 per hour. Florida requires all employers to post minimum wage posters in a “prominent" workplace location so employees may read the state’s minimum wage information. Employers may purchase these posters or download them form Florida’s Workforce Innovation’s website. Employers must also post the federal Fair Labor Standard Act’s minimum wage poster available from the Department of Labor (DOL) website.

In Florida, employers must pay the state minimum wage to any employee who is entitled to the federal minimum wage. If part of your pay is based on tips, you are still entitled to the federal and state minimum wage. If an employee is not receiving the minimum wage to which they are entitled, they must notify their employer and make a claim for the amount of pay owed. If the employer refuses to pay the balance, the employee can sue for full compensation.
