A recent report that appears in Accident Analysis and Prevention examined numbers from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to determine that “distracted walking” carries serious risks. According to the report, people using cell phones while walking became an increasingly common cause of pedestrian injuries in car accidents between 2004 and 2010. For both walkers and drivers, cell phones can make you less aware of your surroundings, raising the risk of serious accidents.
