Family Killed In Lake County Car Accident on the Way to Disney

A family of three was killed in a car accident over the Labor Day weekend after deciding to take a spontaneous trip to Walt Disney World. The family, coming from Georgia, made it to Lake County before their Nissan Maxima was rear-ended at high speed by a Mercedes SUV a little after 4 a.m. on Sunday. The authorities say that both cars were flipped over by the impact and caught fire.

The family, two young parents and their daughter, had planned on visiting Disney World to celebrate the daughter’s first birthday. Both of the parents were said to have worked hard and long in order to provide their daughter the best they could. The family and friends of the victims said they were a very happy family that all had bright futures.

The driver that hit them, who suffered only minor injuries, had his license suspended two days before the crash. According to public records, the driver has had a number of run-ins with the law over the past years, including unlawful speed and texting while driving. A few months ago he was charged with possession of methamphetamine and resisting arrest.

No charges have been brought against the driver as of yet. Florida Highway Patrol has found no witnesses to the crash and says that “any witness is always important to a crash investigation. In this case we have a driver that is alive and gives us his version of what happened and a driver that is dead and cannot tell us what happened.”
