As we have reported recently in our blog, more than 14 million vehicles have been recalled worldwide due to defective airbags manufactured by Takata.
The airbag recall affects BMW, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubshi, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota vehicles. To see if your vehicle is under the recall, visit the safercar.gov website to search by your vehicle’s VIN.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a consumer advisory in October urging owners to get the airbags replaced. The airbags have been linked to deaths, because they allegedly can eject metal shards at a person during deployment.
The agency is continuously updating its list of affected vehicles.
It should be noted that recently the family of an Orlando resident who was allegedly killed by a defective airbag has filed a wrongful death lawsuit. According to the Orlando Sentinel, the family of Hien Tran, who died in October, has filed a lawsuit against Honda and the airbag manufacturer (Takata).
Homicide detectives concluded that pieces of metal or plastic sprayed into Tran’s neck by an exploding airbag following a car accident.
