A recall on more than 1.7 million Dodge Ram trucks has been issued by Fiat Chrysler. The recall cites airbag and steering wheel issues.
Specifically, the steering wheel in Ram models 1500, 2500, and 3500 from 2012 to 2014 may have a wiring defect that could cause the driver’s airbag to deploy. This defect accounts for 1.3 million of the total recall of the trucks. There have been two reported injuries due to this defect.
In addition, almost 200,000 Ram trucks from 2013 to 2015 are in need of a replacement part in the steering wheel that may cause diminished steering response. There has been one accident citing this defect as the cause.
Also, close to another 200,000 Ram 1500 Quad Cabs from 2014 and 2015 have been said by the company to not be in compliance with federal regulations meant to “reduce risk of rear occupant ejection during rollover.” These trucks are being recalled for side airbag adjustments.
Fiat Chrysler has had a few federal regulation issues regarding recalls in the past. A few months ago, an investigation found that the company mishandled a number of recalls and were given a $105 million consent order. This newest recall will be under the microscope.
