Are Florida Theme Park Accidents Common?
Orlando, a hotbed for tourism, has many theme parks attracting millions of visitors. Some of these destinations include Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, which offer people the opportunity to ride on roller coasters.
With this in mind, if you ever suffer an injury in a theme park accident, you should speak to an attorney who knows the legalities surrounding claims. Keep in mind, in 2011, 1,415 people were injured in permanent amusement park ride accidents in the U.S., according to the National Safety Council (NSC).
Of those who were injured, 405 experienced issues on roller coasters. Remember, theme parks have a duty to protect their customers from injury. If they fail to provide a reasonably safe environment, they can be held liable.
Florida Woman Injured in Theme Park Accident
According to the Orlando Sentinel, a woman who suffered head injuries after falling headfirst off a ride at Dollywood has filed a lawsuit against the Tennessee park’s owners.
The woman, from Ponte Vedra Beach, claims in her lawsuit that she suffered permanent impairments and disabilities after falling from the Waltzing Swinger ride while on vacation with her husband and children in December 2013.
The woman claims that a mixture of sleet and rain made the ride slick, and that the theme park did not take adequate safety measures to ensure passenger safety. The lawsuit names Herschend Family Entertainment Corp. and Dolly Parton Productions Inc. as defendants.
The woman allegedly sustained spine and neck injuries, torn ligaments and a broken jaw, according to the lawsuit.
